DIY Robotic Carnival

Week: 6/27-7/1

Ages: 5-9

Location: 142 N Central Ave, 10530

Price: $750

Playing has deeper meaning at a NORY camp. This week at NORY students will not only build robots that move but also ones that can be taught to play! We all know how fun it is to go to a carnival and enjoy all the games and to win all the prizes. Now we will double the fun with our very own invention of a carnival game world we and our robot-friend that we can play right at HOME.

Ask your child: Do you want to build your own carnival games with your friends? Would you like to win prizes by playing your and your friends’ games? What kind of games would you be excited to build?

Week 1: 6/27-7/1

Robotic Mural: A Message to the World

Week: 7/5-7/8

Ages: 5-9

Location: 142 N Central Ave, 10530

Price: $600

Imagine you lived in a world without art? What would you see? What would you watch? What would you listen to? Art has so much meaning, and its cultural impact shapes our growth, expands our mind, and improves our world. In this Robotic Mural: A Message to the World week, your budding changemakers will send their very own purposeful and positive message to the world - in the most creative way possible! They are not quite artists yet, you say? Then what about building an artist robot that can help create art with them? Is that possible? We are going to see if it is this week.

Inventing for Good

Week: 7/11-7/15

Ages: 5-9

Location: 142 N Central Ave, 10530

Price: $750

Generate awareness and inspire thoughtfulness in your child this week. As humans, we take a lot for granted... it’s easy to forget that not everyone has what you have in terms of health, accessibility, and physical capability. This week not only aims to inform students about how unique people can be, but also establishes a realistic goal to design a product for someone that faces challenges that your child might not be familiar with.

Space Exploration

Week: 7/18-7/22

Ages: 5-9

Location: 142 N Central Ave, 10530

Price: $750

Launch your way into a week of space exploration at NORY. With the rising popularity of SpaceX and Mars being as accessible as ever, space exploration is now more relevant and fascinating than ever. We will learn about and discuss the “how,” “what,” and “why” of space exploration in this curiosity-filled week. How do we launch massive heavy objects into space? Let's try it ourselves. What could we do to make this launch even further!? Push your limits of what you think you're capable of at NORY with unlimited options and the empowerment to fail freely in the pursuit of exploration.

Fort Building Masters

Week: 7/25-7/29

Ages: 5-9

Location: 142 N Central Ave, 10530

Price: $750

Fundamentally challenge what your child believes they can accomplish by introducing them to woodworking and carpentry. Using a power drill or other tools can be intimidating at first… but in the right setting with proper safety protocols, it can be a catalyst for creativity. With that being said, this week isn’t just about doing something “cool” with wood… it’s about crafting with a purpose.  Your budding purposeful carpenter will dive into an immersive project-based learning environment where they will invent affordable medical transportation equipment for a community that doesn't have access to advanced technology.

Week 6: 8/1-8/5

Kitchen Chemistry

Kitchen Chemistry

Week: 8/1-8/5

Ages: 5-9

Location: 142 N Central Ave, 10530

Price: $750

Cooking is science and the kitchen is a laboratory where ingredients are combined in precise proportions to create mixtures and compounds that result in physical and chemical changes. Explore bacterial biology, molecular gastronomy, spherification, exothermic reactions and the chemistry of cooking technology. Discover tastebud tempting projects such as stretchable, edible candy and cryogenically frozen foods in this popular week that blends physics and chemistry with relevant robot-building projects. When children are able to test and experiment in an environment where trial and error is expected, they will learn to persevere through the fails and celebrate sweet success.

Week 7: 8/8-8/12

Sports Science

Week: 8/8-8/12

Ages: 5-9

Location: 142 N Central Ave, 10530

Price: $750

Designed to excite students by bringing STEAM into their favorite sports activities, this week thrives on action-packed learning experiences. Each day, learners investigate the mechanics of a different movement, connecting concepts, like force, motion and the influence of gravity, to the movement of their own bodies. What does friction have to do with soccer? Why would a football player need to know about unbalanced forces?  Answer these questions and so much more!

Be the Real Inventor

Week: 8/15-8/19

Ages: 5-9

Location: 142 N Central Ave, 10530

Price: $750

Drive curiosity and the desire to break things down with this week of reverse engineering and inventing. We want students to be exposed to new technology and actually learn how it works in the classroom. Once they’ve done that, each NORY inventor will develop their empathy & leverage the technology they’ve just learned about to create something that can help another in a meaningful way.

Week 8: 8/15-8/19

"Your program is a breath of fresh air. Nothing else has made her excited about learning, and she has blossomed since having taken your camp."

- Jasmine

"My son came home from camp and told me his day was very very great! We are never able to get much out of him on normal school days, but he was so excited to tell us how he loved building and doing experiments! We will definitely sign him up again!"

- Michelle

"Griffin really loved his time at camp.  He told me earlier this week on our way to drop off -- "I never want this week to end!".  Woodworking is basically his dream come true.  I'm so happy we were able to find this for him."
